Poem about getting older

2008 23, 10

To Alice,
Today is my birthday and I feel quite good.
My body’s still working well. See I’m touching wood!
My hair’s not all white and my wrinkles are few,
I can still dance up a storm; can I dance with you?
I’m quite full of vigour, just getting ripe.
But they now print the newpaper in much smaller type.
My hearing’s still good. What’s that you say?
Speak clearly, don’t mumble, your voice fades away.
Inside this old body I’m still young. I don’t have any fame.
But if life starts at forty, I’m still in the game.
Love from your “twin”

11 Tips for Evacuation from your home! (hurricane, flood, fire, etc) – from FlyLady

2008 20, 10

Dear Friends,

Here it is that time of year again when we are faced with the threat
of Evacuation from our homes. We never know when we this could happen
because of fire, train wreck, floods or hurricanes. It is up to us to
be prepared!

1. PEOPLE: Have a plan for getting out of the house and make sure
everyone knows it. Have an emergency bag of food and water for your
family. Include wholesome snacks and treats for the children: dried
fruit, nuts, peanut butter, crackers and granola bars.

2. PETS: Keep pet carriers and leashes readily available to lead pets
to safety. Also take pet food with you.

3. PICTURES: Keep negatives or CDs of pictures in a lock box or at a
family member’s home. Have picture albums in one place ready to grab
and go at a moments notice.

4. PAPERS: Have all your important papers in a lock box at a bank and
only keep copies at the house. This keeps you from panicking. If you
have them at home then put them in a folder that you can easily grab
if you have to move fast. Color code it so you can find it!

5. PRESCRIPTIONS: Take your medications with you. Don’t forget the
ones that have to be refrigerated like insulin. Have small ice chest
and cold packs readily accessible to pack and go. If you have babies;
remember their formula or medications.

6. PURSES and PETRO: This is where you keep your identification,
credit cards and cash. Keep a stash of cash for emergencies and grab
it. You may not be able to use an ATM in the event of a power outage.
Make sure your car always has a half a tank of gas.

7. PROPER CLOTHES and COMFORT ITEMS: According to the weather
conditions; gather up a change of clothes along with outer clothing:
coats, rain gear, boots, gloves and hats. If you have babies remember
diapers. Remember to grab your children’s favorite blanket, stuffed
animal or toy. A game or a deck of cards could keep them occupied and
calm too.

8. PLANNER/CALENDAR/CONTROL JOURNAL: These documents have all the
information you will need from phone numbers, insurance numbers and
important dates. They are small and filled with things you don’t have
to try to remember.

9. PERSONAL PROTECTION: Many of us still have that time of the month.
Be sure and grab a box of your preferred protection. It may be hard to
find if you have been evacuated. Stress can cause our bodies to do
strange things too. So be prepared. Take medication for cramps too.

10. PHONES, RADIOS, FUEL FOR THE CAR: Many of us have cell phones now.
Always keep them charged up and have a charger in the car or an extra
battery. They may not work in the event of power outages, but then
they might. Know which local radio station has emergency bulletins.
Keep your battery powered radio tuned to that local station and have
plenty of batteries for it. Also keep a old type regular phone that
does not operate with electricity. GAS PUMPS don’t work without power
either. You can’t leave if your car is on empty. So keep your car fuel
tank topped off when it hits a half of tank. This way you will have
gas to drive at least a couple of hours. Evacuation routes are usually
bumper to bumper traffic. Having a tank filled will keep you less
stressed.

11. PATIENCE: This is one of the most important things to pack. Keep
it inside of you so that you have a clear calm head. Having your P’s
to Preparedness list guiding you will keep you patient. In the event
of an evacuation there will be lots of displaced people. Being patient
will make things less stressful. Your children need to see you calm
and collected. This will help keep them calm too.

We can FLY in the face of Danger and Emergency if we are prepared.
Don’t wait till you are being asked to evacuate. Everyone thinks that
it could not happen to them. Well it could and it is up to you to make
sure you are prepared.

Don’t wait! DO IT NOW!!

How-to: Blogging to your YACS CMS using posterous.com

2008 19, 10

How to send your blog posts to YACS CMS ( yetanothercommunitysystem.com ) from posterous.com:

1) Find a section you want to be able to post to. You can only choose one section.
2) Note its number. You can find out the number easily, as it will be:
http://yourwebsite.com/sections/view.php/###/blahblahblah

The ### – that is the number you want.

3) Edit http://yourwebsite.com/services/describe.php and change the BlogID
in the line for MetaWeblog to that ### number.

Example: If your section was 107 (http://yoursite.com/sections/view.php/107)
Instead of blogID=”” it’ll say “blogID=”107”

4) Now you can set up your YACS website to work with posterous.com!

( If this works, the resulting page also should show up on http://free.naplesplus.us/sections/view.php/107 which is a YACS website which will be proof that this works)

freshly baked test for posterous – and if it works, then http://posterous.com is 100% compatible with YACS ( http://yetanothercommunitysystem.com ) — and if it is, I’ll let both the makers of YACS -and- the author of posterous 🙂

Perks of reaching 50, 60, 70 years old…. (true joke from my mother!)

2008 19, 10

Someone had to remind me, so I’m reminding you too. Don’t laugh…. It is
all true…

Perks of reaching 50 or being over 60 and heading towards 70!

01. Kidnappers are not very interested in you.

02. In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.

03. No one expects you to run — anywhere.

04. People call at 9 p.m. and ask, ‘Did I wake you?’

05. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.

06. There is nothing left to learn the hard way.

07. Things you buy now won’t wear out.

08. You can eat supper at 4 p.m.

09. You can live without sex but not your glasses.

10. You get into heated arguments about pension plans.

11. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.

12. You quit trying to hold your stomach in no matter who walks into the
room.

13. You sing along with elevator lift music.

14. Your eyes won’t get much worse.

15 . Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.

16. Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national weather
service.

17. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can’t remember them
either.

18. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to manageable size.

19. You can’t remember who sent you this list.

20. Oh, now what was No. 20…?

And you notice these are all in Big Print for your convenience.

Talking with Author Milo Wolff, WSM

2008 18, 10
Milo Wolff has published on the Spherical Standing Wave Structure of Matter (WSM), a concept that returns the Universe to an understandable concept: that all matter is made up of waves and that particles at the smallest quantum level are not particles at all, but are spherical standing waves. It is also a holistic theory, that space isn’t empty space at all, that all matter/energy is interconnected (something that we intuitively know and he shows it to be true) and explains some of the apparent paradoxes in modern quantum physics are not paradoxes at all – they are explainable as WAVES.
He has published: Schroedinger’s Universe and the Origin of the Natural Laws and Exploring the Physics of the Unknown Universe: An Adventurers Guide.

I think he’s onto something very big, for if it can be proven to fully explain physics at least as well as the current Standard Model but ALSO explain gravity, weak force, strong force and the electromagnetic force (which it does — they are simply properties of different waves and NOT mysterious forces at all), it will cause a great upheaval in physics, not so much proving a lot of scientists wrong, but rather proving that they just didn’t dig deeply enough.

Have you Seen…?

2008 18, 10

A lady was telling the other day that she saw a man driving down the interstate, and a dog was hanging on to the tail gate for dear life.  She said if he hadn’t been going so fast in the other direction she would have tried to stop him.

A few weeks later her son see’s this truck at the bass pro shop!  It’s a taxidermist! THIS IS REALLY IN DAPHNE ALABAMA!

Created Naples Utterli group

2008 15, 10
http://www.utterli.com/Naples is where you can find the Naples utterli group. (Naples, FL, Collier County, Lee County, Charlotte County, Hendry County and surrounding areas). It’s hard to find places online with local interest, so when I can’t find ’em, I create ’em. Surprising things often follow!
